Hello, My name is Sara. In 1994 when I was 17 years old and about to graduate from High School, I was given a chance to participate on the March of the Living. The March (as many participants call it) takes place in April of every year for two weeks. The dates vary depending on how holidays fall. The first week is spent in Poland. You get to see the Warsaw Ghetto, Aushwitz, Berkenau, Majdanik, as well as other camps, ghetto's, and whatever is left of the Jews that once lived there or still do. For the main event of the trip, the actual march, the particpants walk from Aushwitz to Birkenau, which takes place on Yom Ha Shoa, Holocaust Rememberance Day.
The second week of the trip is spent in Israel learning about the country and seeing historical sites that have help shaped Judaism. Participants spend two holidays there: Yom Ha Zikaron (Israel's Memorial Day) and Yom Ha Atzmaut (Israel's Independce Day). Participants see sites like the Old City, Masada, Tel Aviv, Safed, and a Kibbutz. They also get a chance to spend time in Jerusalem on their own.
This page is a way for me to share my experiences with the world in hopes to inspire others to consider taking the trip.
